Radicals on the Grid at Willow Springs Raceway

On January 10-11, 2004, Team Radical West started off the New Year by making an appearance at the Redline Racing’s Track Event at Willow Springs Raceway, the “Fastest Track in the West.”   Team members who participated in the event included John Morris, Ken Melgoza, Marc Futterman, and Ken Adelberg.  Event Coordinator, Laura Kunde, also attended, along with Radical Service Manager Marc Brewster. 

This weekend marked the first event in which Radical West Racing participated that was sponsored by Redline Racing.  Redline Racing organizes track events for street cars, offering a controlled environment for people to test the limits of their car on a race track.  Their track events are affordable, and they focus on maximum track time with a limited amount of traffic on the track. Team Radical West members were honing their driving skills in preparation for upcoming SCCA, ARC races, and track events this season.  True to form, the awesome performance and speed of the Radicals was noticeable on the track, as team members passed all of the other cars on the track with ease.   Numerous test drives for prospective new Radical Owners were given by the team, and everyone enjoyed a fabulous weekend. 

One of the highlights of the event was the “wild pig chase” by John Morris, CEO of Radical West Racing.  Before the event could begin on Saturday morning, a wild pig got loose on the Willow Springs racetrack.  John, being a good samaritan and animal lover, volunteered to help herd the wild pig out of the way of traffic.  Things were going well until John caught up with the pig, and he turned around and took a BITE out of John’s calf (luckily his pants got in the way of the pig’s teeth.)  John, in defense, kicked the pig and the pig  took off running after John!  Fortunately, the pig got tired of running before John did, and was eventually caught and corralled in a fenced area until after the event, thanks to the assistance of Marc Futterman.
