Radical West Racing Private Track Weekend at Spring Mountain

Team Radical West members and invited guests enjoyed a special weekend of track time and fun on July 10-11, 2004 at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada.   A record number of team members attended this exciting event, along with special friends of the team, and the colorful Radicals looked and performed extremely well in the desert heat.

Team Radical West Members who attended the event included John Morris, Ken Melgoza, Marc Futterman, Matt Merrill, Glenn Dulaine, Elliott Brainard, Tim Day, Glenn Scott, Roy & Vera Sciortino, Bob Majorino, and Alan & Lindy Cislini.

Radical West Racing Staff members Marc Brewster, David Thompson, Todd Joyce & Laura Kunde, along with Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch staff members Dave Petrie, Trasi Pillman, Victor Resendiz and Donnie Cole, were on hand to ensure the event ran smoothly.  In addition, friends and family attended the event to support their loved ones.

In addition to the Team Radical West members, special guests were invited to celebrate the close of escrow of Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, to experience the racetrack, and enjoy the weekend festivities.  Due to the intense summer heat in Pahrump, lapping sessions were held in the early morning and evening hours, with free time during the day.

Invited guests included Porsche and Ferrari Club members and Track Organizers throughout the region.  Team members and guests thoroughly enjoyed driving their Radicals on the challenging Spring Mountain track, despite sweltering conditions that weekend in the Nevada desert.  One of the highlights of the event was watching two of our women Radical Team Members - Vera Sciortino and Lindy Cislini - drive a Radical for the FIRST TIME on the racetrack!

Some local dignitaries also attended the event, including Tony DeMeo, the Sheriff of Nye County and Lieutenant Jeff Grimaud, from the Sheriff’s office.  Team members and guests enjoyed meeting Tony and Jeff, and they were regaled with interesting facts and fun stories about the town of Pahrump.

US Racing Club sponsored a catered BBQ dinner on Saturday night, and all the guests who attended enjoyed delectable food and conversation under the desert sky.  Potential investors for US Racing Club were also invited to visit the ranch, to go for a thrilling ride on the racetrack, and to enjoy the festivities at the Saturday night dinner.

Please note that a future Investor track day, including a formal presentation, is being planned at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch for September 2004 - for additional information please contact Kent Broussard.  Everyone who attended the invitational event agreed that it was a memorable experience - a fun time was enjoyed by all!

Radical West Closes Escrow on Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch
Radical Motorsport General Manager Paul Dujon visits from England

On June 15, 2004, Radical’s California-based distributors, Radical West Racing, closed escrow on the purchase of Spring Mountain Motorsport Park race circuit in Pahrump, Nevada.
The 2.2 mile circuit to be known as “Spring Mountain Motorsport Ranch” is located outside the historic desert town, a mere 45 minute drive from fabulous Las Vegas.

John Morris, CEO of Radical West is thrilled about his latest acquisition and explains: “We have always enjoyed driving our Radicals on the well designed and efficiently run Spring Mountain race track. We will continue to run the Corvette Driving School under the new name Spring Mountain Advanced Driving School, formerly known as Bragg-Smith Advanced Driving School.  In addition we hope to be able to announce plans soon regarding a Radical Driving School in the near future”
Paul Dujon from the Radical factory visited Spring Mountain this weekend and was given a guided tour of the circuit from the passenger seat of both a Radical SR3 and John’s Robinson R44 helicopter.

Paul enthused: The helicopter ride was a fantastic experience. The circuit looks great from the air and the surrounding Nevada desert and the mountains are breathtaking. But for sheer thrills the passenger ride in the SR3 was fantastic.  John obviously knows the SR3 and the circuit well. I was very impressed!”.

While at the circuit Allan and Lindy Cislini from Scottsdale, Arizona arrived to test an SR3.  Although it was their first experience of a race car on a circuit, they decided to purchase a car and join Team Radical West’s ever growing band of track day arrive and drive customers.

Welcome to the Radical West team, Allan and Lindy!

“Radical Girl” Robin Perrino Takes FIVE at Sebring

The weekend of June 5/6 proved to be exciting for Robin Perrino of Tampa, FL. Over the course of the weekend, Perrino managed to take 1st Place in DSR in all three of her races at famed Sebring International Raceway.

This was her fourth race weekend in her yellow Radical Club 1000, a four-year-old car which she acquired in March of this year. Powered by Yamaha, she has coaxed the car to several 2nd and 3rd place finishes at Sebring and Moroso, and managed to eke out a 5th place finish at her first National race at Daytona a month ago.

Perrino loves the handling and the quickness of the car … her previous racer had been a GP Spitfire. “A world of difference between the two -  the Radical is like a rocket”, which is what she has nicknamed the car.

Perrino has been competing in SCCA for four years. Her “daily drivers” include a Ferrari 328GTS, a New Beetle (Turbo S model), a Porsche 924, and a TR6 which she restored herself. Automobiles, and racing them in competition with others, are the driving passions in her life.

Team Radical West Attends Speed Ventures Track Day
at California Speedway
On a hot and sunny summer day in June, members and staff of Team Radical West Racing traveled to California Speedway in Fontana California, to participate in Speed Venture’s latest event.  A record number of Radicals made a showing on the fast and furious California Speedway track.  Team members who were in attendance included John Morris, Roy Sciortino, Glenn Scott, Kirk Clymer, Marc Futterman, Ken Melgoza, Glenn Dulaine, Ken Adelberg, and Todd Waldman.  Radical staff members Marc Brewster, Todd Joyce and David Thompson were also on hand to work with the team, along with Event Coordinator Laura Kunde.   Also enjoying the event were friends and family members of the team.

Speed Ventures organizes track events for street cars and race cars alike, providing a safe, fun environment to learn the limits of your car and improve your driving abilities.  They offer instruction in track-driving technique, optional timing at all events, and an opportunity to affordably live your dream of driving on a real racetrack.

The Radicals were stiff competition for the other cars on the California Speedway racetrack.  John Morris had qualified in pole position for the upcoming Radical race until his Turbocharged SR3 caught on fire on the racetrack!  John quickly exited the vehicle and put out the flames with his fire extinguisher.  The fire grew quickly and John put up a valiant effort with his in-car extinguisher until the flames moved directly beneath the fuel tank.  At that point he thought it best to get out of the way and he waited for the Fire Crew on hand to finish the job.

The race was on….John was out because of the fire, with Radicals doing well in the group.  However, the race was red flagged by the event organizers due to an incident on the track.  For event results and run times, click here.

The Radical West team members had a memorable experience on the California Speedway track with Speed Ventures participants, and we look forward to attending many more fun events in the future.  We would like to thank Aaron Bitterman for planning a great weekend.
ARC/Radical West Sponsored “Radical Cup Series” Begins

Last month we announced that the American Racing Club’s Radical West Cup Series was being launched on June 20th, 2004.   It’s time to find out who’s the best Radical driver on the west coast.  Within the Sports Racer series is the Radical West Cup, where only Radical drivers score points, separate from the other Sports Racers to compete for a end-of-year trophy and cash prizes for the Radical marque.  The cash prizes will be $250, $150, $75 for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places.

The first event was recently held on June 20, 2004 at Infineon Raceway.

Taking the lead in the points race is Ron Nelson of Graysport Racing, with 200 points.  Ron placed second overall in the very competitive sportsracer group, letting his considerable driving skills take full advantage of an extremely capable 1300cc Radical Supersport.  Ron is a former professional driver and is quite impressed with the performance of the Radical.  The next ARC Radical West Cup race is Saturday, August 7th, at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows California.

In addition to the cash prizes given to the top 3 finishers of the 2004 ARC Radical West Cup series, the championship winning driver will also receive a generously offered “Radical Drive in Europe” from Radical Sportscars USA.  A radical Sportscar and crew will be provided at any Radical Championship race throughout Europe.  Additional 2004 ARC Radical West Cup contingency awards are to be announced.

For further information on the 2004 ARC Radical West Cup, or to enter the series, please visit the American Racing Club website.  For Radical purchase information for the 2004 series, please visit the Radical West website or call TOLL FREE SPEED-RW.

Radical West Weekend in Monterey…
Green Flag Driving/Track Masters Events

Team Radical West Racing showed up in force last weekend at beautiful Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California.  On a sunny and brisk spring day in early June, members of Team Radical West, including John Morris, Ken Melgoza, Marc Futterman, Glenn Scott, Tim Day, Arnaud Weber, Elliott Brainard, and Bob Majorino attended the Green Flag Driving event.   Most of the team members also stayed for Monday’s event, sponsored by Track Masters.

“With 8 Radicals on the track this weekend, this was one of the biggest event of the season so far for Team Radical West,” reported CEO John Morris.   “Lots of time and preparation was involved in arranging for the transport of the cars up to Monterey by our crew.  We are looking forward to seeing more Radicals than ever before driving on the race track during the next season.”  He continued, “Our team members especially enjoyed taking the winners of the Charity Auction from Gregg Scott and Laurie Hara’s group for thrilling Radical Rides to help raise money for their local schools.”

The Radicals performed flawlessly on the race track and impressed the crowd of racers, car owners, and racing fans at Laguna Seca.   Test drives and rides were given to several prospective Radical owners.  Kirk Clymer, who brought his Lotus to the event, took a ride in an SR3 with John Morris and was instantly sold on the performance and handling of the Radical.   The next week, he came in to the showroom and purchased an SR4 to drive at track events and races throughout the region with the rest of the team.

Members of Team Radical West Racing, being friendly competitors, decided to hold an “Unofficial Radical Race” between some of the Radical owners during one of the sessions at Monday’s Track Masters event.  The stakes were high with a $50.00 bill promised to the winner.  John Morris dictated the ground rules, including strict passing and safety guidelines between the Radical racers.  Competition was fierce, and with “most” of the rules followed, the winner of the $50.00 purse was Marc Futterman, with Glenn Scott in 2nd place and Elliott Brainard in 3rd place.

As members of the team watched and cheered him on, Radical West Racing Crew member David Thompson enjoyed his first track driving experience in his new Motorcycle on the Laguna Seca race track.

We would like to thank Green Flag Driving and Track Masters for sponsoring these exciting events.
