Spotlight on Partner
Pfadt Race Engineering
Pfadt Race Engineering, from Salt Lake City, Utah, has been attending events at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch since 2005. In fact, almost all of its products have been tested and developed on Spring Mountain’s 3.1 mile course! Prior to the launch of any of Pfadt’s products, their suspension components are put through the paces of rigorous track and street use. According to Robbin Pfadt, co-owner of Pfadt Race Engineering, “Spring Mountain offers a unique testing ground with the famous “drop,” challenging tight turns and long fast straight-aways.”

Pfadt Race Engineering is a well-respected engineering firm that designs, tests, and manufactures suspension and race components for C5, C6 and C6 Z06 Corvettes, with a C4 line in the works. Products include adjustable sway bars, adjustable coil overs, inverted shock absorbers, bushings, camber kits, race seat mounting kits and much more. The Company focuses on building product lines both for the serious racer and the daily driver “enthusiast.” Chief Engineer and President, Aaron Pfadt, is a formally trained Mechanical Engineer and spent 10 years in Detroit working for General Motors and Chrysler. Those skills are now put to work pursuing his love of racing and Corvettes in his own company.

Aaron and Robbin Pfadt
(pictured above) a friendly and professional husband-and-wife partnership, attended their first Corvette Track Days as an official sponsor in the fall of 2006 and they haven’t missed one since. As enthusiastic sponsors and participants, Robbin comments, “Spring Mountain puts on an event unlike any other we’ve ever attended and we are honored to be a part of their success! From the helpful, well-organized staff, to the highly experienced and friendly instructors, Corvette Track Days offer drivers of all skill levels a full weekend of productive, exciting track time.”

Pfadt has contributed to many success stories from their happy clients. One of their favorite customer stories is from a Club Spring Mountain member who decided to purchase and install Pfadt’s coil-overs and sway bars. Aaron and Robbin had met club member Bob Evans several times at events at Spring Mountain and at their local track, Miller Motorsports Park. Bob quite possibly has more time on the Spring Mountain track in a Corvette than any other Club member. Always friendly and interested, Bob had been considering Pfadt’s suspension package for quite some time and after finally taking the plunge, he had the opportunity to run his C5 Z06 through the paces on the 2.2 mile course. Robbin recalls a moment that made their day, “At about 2:00 in the afternoon, our phone rang and on the other end was an ecstatic Bob. He was happy to call and report that after adding our suspension and making no other chassis or engine changes, he suddenly took 3 seconds off of his personal best time!”
Aaron Pfadt summarizes, “We couldn’t ask for a better testimonial, or a happier customer.”
We are honored to work with Pfadt Race Engineering as a valued partner.

Honeymoon at Spring Mountain
“Once upon a time, two Corvettes fell in love - and so did their drivers.” So reads the wedding invitation of Joe and Cindy Orrico, from Costa Mesa, California. Joe and Cindy, a couple who are “crazy about each other AND their Corvettes” enjoy life to the fullest - on and off the racetrack. Both avid motorsports fans, Joe and Cindy originally met at one of their local Corvette Super Sports Club monthly meetings. With so much in common it seemed destined that the two should fall in love and ride off into the sunset together - in a Corvette, of course!
California Speedway was the venue for the wedding on October 14, 2006. Cindy, a charismatic and vivacious Corvette aficionado, describes the wedding as “the most awesome day of our lives!” Cindy’s employer thoughtfully rented a motor home for the bride’s use as a dressing room. The ceremony was held before 80 of their closest friends, at Lot 14 of the Autocross course. This bridal procession was on wheels: Cindy and her maid-of-honor drove to the altar in her maid-of-honor’s 2002 Coupe with a bridal veil hanging from the trunk. Joe and his best man drove to the altar with tuxedo tails hanging from his best man’s 2002 Z06. Both bride and groom wore matching driving suits, and Cindy’s bouquet was hand crafted by the bride and her mother from an inverted orange cone. Cindy also sewed tiny orange cones into her garter. After the ceremony, Joe and Cindy took a victory lap in Joe’s car, both holding large checkered flags out the windows!
Everyone in attendance commented that they had never seen a wedding so easy and natural. As the invitation specified, “Dress - Definitely NOT Formal!” The icing on the cake? Joe and Cindy spent their honeymoon at Spring Mountain’s Corvette Track Days with fellow motorsports enthusiasts, celebrating their love for each other and for Corvettes. Joe and Cindy, thanks for sharing your special day with Spring Mountain readers. We appreciate your enthusiasm for motorsports and your zest for life. Do you have a human interest story about Spring Mountain? Send your story to Jerra Morris at jerra@springmountainmotorsports.com and we will make every effort to include it in one of our monthly newsletters.

What a great time everyone had at Corvette Track Days on February 9 and 10! There were 123 registered drivers and about 250 people for our fabulous dinner. Art Spong, Corvette Brand Quality Manager and Kirk Binnion, Lead Corvette Designer spent the weekend chatting with attendees, answering questions and even some time driving on the track. Raffle prizes were donated by Spring Mountain, Pfadt Engineering, Stop Tech, Innovative Automotive Products, Pahrump Nugget Casino & Hotel and CORSA Exhaust. Kirk Binnion donated one of his very special, limited edition, autographed ZR1 prints to the raffle. Photos by Charles Adamson.
Jim Browning and Jim Browning Jr.
from CORSA journeyed out to Spring Mountain to visit with all of the Corvette Track Days participants. During Saturday’s lunch break Jim Jr. and Spring Mountain’s Tony Johnson installed a CORSA exhaust on a Spring Mountain 2008 Z51 to show the attendees just how quick and easy the installation can be.This was the first time that Corvette Track Days was held in the new Corvette building and it exemplified just how far Corvette Track Days has come in the last 9 years. Spring Mountain Corvette Track Days was the first regularly held, non-competitive, Corvette only, road track event in the United States. This is where the Corvette Family comes together from all over the United States and Canada for camaraderie and to learn about our fabulous Corvettes.
Mothers Polish
presented a workshop on car care and the use of its products. This was very apropos. After spending two days driving on the track most of the cars were in need of a little loving care. Pete Callaway of Callaway Cars was on hand with the Spring Mountain Callaway Corvette and spent lots of time responding to questions. Pomona Valley Corvette Association won the Club participation award with over 30 people in attendance. This club seems unbeatable when it comes to participation and enthusiasm. Our dedicated group from Colorado again brought their cars to run in the warm Nevada sun. Distance does not seem to matter when you have such passionate participants. The Spring Mountain Pratt & Miller C6RS is nearing completion and the excitement is building. Look for a special announcement about this very special Katech powered 8.2 liter, 600 horsepower Corvette on steroids.Spring Mountain has taken delivery of two more 2008 Z51 Corvettes for the Corvette Advanced Driving School fleet and more are yet to come.

Member Weekend February 17-18
By Ellen Delmore, Country Club Coordinator
What a weekend we had last month, with over 20 members and a variety of their guests it was an exciting two days of driving.
Bruce Jameson and his entire family enjoyed their newly purchased Radicals and a few trips in the helicopter.
The buzz on the paddock was the anticipation of the Karnival of Karts Open House March 2. Members are so excited to try the new track. Member Mark McCarthy purchased a new kart to run on the day of the opening. We did have a bit of a kart teaser as we designated an hour and a half on the 1.5-mile track for members to experience the ride.
Co-owner John Morris was out with usual enthusiasm giving Radical and helicopter rides and giving tours of the “soon to be open” Club House. John is so generous with his time, if you’ve never been in a helicopter it is his great pleasure to take you up. Email Ellen and let her know when you’re coming out and if the helicopter and John are available, we’ll set it up!
There were also many other members that gave rides to guests. Kirk Shroyer gave rides and Mark McCarthy was showing guest Elizabeth Pickard around the track in his Lotus. Fred Chin was out with his entire Porsche crew, which made for some serious action. Dave Tweedlie, Jeff Shafer and a lot of other Radical enthusiasts enjoyed a fast day on the track. It was such a friendly, family atmosphere that weekend. As the weather gets warmer we look forward to seeing many of you and your family at the track. With so many events in the works it is impossible for you to miss an exciting weekend.
Check out all the exciting pictures, we hope you enjoyed yourself as much as the staff did.
Karnival of Karts - March 2
The Karnival of Karts Grand Opening event was a huge success, with over 50 karts participating in the festivities. Marc and Suzanne Segal, participants in the event, commented, “THANK YOU … for the Kart open house. The track is awesome. It is a perfect mix of high speed and technical all in one. The new sections blend perfectly with the road course. Everyone was very helpful. Having the owner of the track come over and welcome us along with Dave Petrie was great. A special thanks to Ken Northrup for his expertise, knowledge and passion for the sport!”
Ken Melgoza, Charter Member, prepared this short video to introduce our new Karting Program on our website. Thank you, Ken! Check out our new Kart Video!

Remember this is YOUR Club,
and we always appreciate your input on how we can serve you better. Thank you for your support, and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ellen Delmore, your personal Country Club Representative, via email - ellen@springmountainmotorsports.com - or by phone TOLL FREE at 800.391.6891.

AMPT™ Adds a New Twist to Parade of Pistons™
Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch to Display Hot Cars & Cool Aircraft
February 15, 2008 (Duluth, MN) – Today AMPT Associates, Inc. announced that Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch has joined FLYNG Magazine’s Parade of Pistons. Spring Mountain is an exclusive club for adrenaline junkies who prefer to drive a high-performance sports car than drive a golf ball or fly exciting sport aircraft rather than fly fish. And since the cross over between performance auto enthusiasts and aviation enthusiasts is quite strong, AMPT Associates is providing Parade of Pistons guests an opportunity to be exposed to piston-powered high-performance on four wheels rather than three.
“At AMPT, our business is founded on marketing exciting products and services to an active demographic who enjoys aviation, marine, powersports and transportation, hence our name A-M-P-T,” states Randy S. Bolinger, Managing Director of Aviation for AMPT Associates. “Aviation research indicates that the same consumer who purchases an aircraft is also an auto enthusiast, boat enthusiast and/or motorcycle enthusiast. For many adventure-minded consumers, these avocations are not mutually exclusive and that is exactly why Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch is heaven on earth for an adrenaline junkie,” adds Bolinger.
Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch is conveniently located in Pahrump, Nevada only 45 miles west of Las Vegas. The firm sponsors 1, 2 and 3-day Corvette Driving Programs, Radical Racing Schools, Lotus Performance Driving Schools, and Club Spring Mountain – an exclusive private Motorsports Country Club for members only. Anyone can become a member of Club Spring Mountain and the club offers various levels of corporate and private memberships to meet the needs of any serious motorsports enthusiast.
The ranch boasts three different track configurations, a full paddock area with garages that members can rent to store their exotic cars between track sessions, and a beautiful new resort-style clubhouse with a pool, spa and workout facilities for Club members. Members are offered preferred track time, private instruction, affiliate relationships with car clubs, special events, and an exclusive opportunity to drive the challenging Spring Mountain track on their designated member days.
Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch provides the ultimate year-round location to hone driving skills or treat family, friends or business associates to an unforgettable motorsports experience. Recently the firm announced the addition of a world-class Go-Kart track and a Flying Club.
“Because so many of our members are also aviation enthusiasts, Spring Mountain recently launched our own flying club for members using the sleek new Remos G-3 Light Sport Aircraft,” stated Jerra Morris Director of Marketing. “We now offer a thrill-seekers special Drive-Kart-Fly Experience for members that is quickly becoming tremendously popular and we thought that Parade of Pistons would be a great place to reach people interested in both aviation and motorsports,” Morris concluded.
Spring Mountain Motosports will be displaying a Lamborghini and Remos aircraft at the Los Angeles Parade of Pistons event at Hawthorne Municipal Airport, March 27 – 29, 2008. For more details and to see a complete list of exhibitors, visit www.paradeofpistons.com.
AMPT Associates, Inc. is a highly-specialized, full-service strategic planning, marketing, communications/public relations and event management firm serving the Aviation, Marine, Powersports and Transportation industries. AMPT Associates, Inc. also operates AMPT Expos, a series of innovative demonstration tours, lifestyle events and trade show displays called OEM™ (On-site Experiential Marketing) to help original equipment manufacturers promote premium consumer products. There are lots of exciting happenings at Spring Mountain.
Spring Mountain has just added three new 2008 Z51 Corvettes to the Corvette School fleet and more cars are on the way.
The Pratt & Miller crew are working expeditiously on our new C6RS. The carbon panels are mounted and the car goes to the paint shop next week. In just a very few weeks the new Super Vette will leave the cold of Michigan for the warm and welcoming Spring Mountain track.
Jim Browning of Corsa Performance Exhausts has sent cat-back systems for some of our School Corvettes. Students now have the opportunity to compare the sound and sensation of OEM stock exhaust with the Corsa systems on our C6 Z06, C6 Z51 6-speed and C6 Z51 automatic paddle shifter Corvettes. Just how loud do you want your car? Listen to our Corvettes and decide which sound is the right one for you.
Corvette, Cadillac and NASCAR racecar driver Ron Fellows paid a visit to Spring Mountain on Monday February 4. (Ron is pictured at right between Victor Resendiz and Dave Petrie.) Ron was preparing a class for the buyers of the Pratt and Miller C6RS, and we are pleased to announce he will be instructing this class at Spring Mountain with the support of our staff. Our Corvette students were thrilled to have the opportunity to chat with this racing icon and each took home an autographed poster.

Radicals Compete at Laguna Seca Race Report by Jeff Shafer
Radical Cup racers
braved the stormy weather up in Monterey and gathered for competition at Laguna Seca Raceway on February 1-3, 2008. The weather would be the story for the first few rounds of the 2008 Radical West Cup. We knew we were taking our chances with Laguna Seca in February but now we have proved that rain is not a problem. Over half of the U.K. championship would be held in rainy weather but this would be the first time for the Radical West Cup to run in full wet conditions.
Superbowl Sunday was full of track time, wet weather and a Superbowl party to boot. The drivers had very limited rain experience before today so the first test session was getting acclimated with the conditions. Rooster tails were flying and heavy rain was falling with deep standing water around the track. Radical contenders were very successful in adapting and there were only a couple harmless spins.
Although the track was wet and cold when the green flag dropped, Tim Day immediately took the lead as Dave Tweedlie, Bob Majorino, Craig Oka, and the rest of the field followed suit. Matt Maddox had some difficulty through the first corner but managed to catch up to the field and pass Craig on the final lap. Dave pushed hard and produced the fastest lap of the race. Pete Fowler had an unfortunate spin while leading in turn six, while Ken Davis looked to have this track down pat in his Lola sports 2000 to win the Invitational class.
The final race found mixed conditions with most of the track dry. Our defending champion Tim Day started from the pole and once again set sail to put another win under his belt. The “Godfather” Bob Majorino pulled one of his trademarked turn it on at the end strategies to pass Dave Tweedlie and was catching Tim Day but ran out of time.
Ken Davis once again took the victory in the Invitational but not without Pete Fowlers help. Pete showed a lot of speed in the wet passing most of the SR3’s until he encountered a slight mechanical problem.
The next Radical Cup event is March 8-9 at Spring Mountain!
