Club Spring Mountain News - January 2012

A New Year Begins with New Experiences at the Club

Happy New Year from your friends at Club Spring Mountain...your destination for extreme fun in 2012! As we reflect on an exciting and memorable 2011, we closed the year with many wonderful new members, added races to the Club series (Miata and Bracket-Style), more improvements to the facility, including a 16-unit Condominium building for overnight guests, launched a world-class website, value-added vendors, additions to our programs, services and much more. It has been our pleasure to serve our valued Club members, and we look forward to welcoming a year filled with continued development, more activities, and many more reasons to visit the track for excitement this year.

Why not make a resolution to schedule more visits to Spring Mountain this year! In 2012 we are planning more events, more Club races and more amenities for all to experience. It's going to be another GREAT year. The economy is on the upswing and our membership continues to grow at a steady rate, thanks to referrals from our loyal and enthusiastic members (you know who you are!) This year we will make memories with members and friends old and new. More development is planned at the facility this year with the upcoming acquisition of a 120-acre parcel adjacent to the property. The future looks bright for members of Club Spring Mountain, and we hope you will be joining us more often in 2012.

None of our progress would have been possible without your support and enthusiasm, and we thank you sincerely for your business through the years. We're looking forward to serving you now and in the future

.

We'll see you at the Club!

Club Member News

Spotlight on Joe Collura and Marlene Livings

Most of our members know Joe Collura and Marlene Livings as loyal Members of the Club since June, 2007 (they are Member #29) - before the Clubhouse was even built. They drive a 2007 Shelby Cobra and a 1995 Mustang GT 5.0 on the track and enjoy socializing in the Clubhouse.

Sophia Loren once said, "Everything you see I owe to spaghetti." Chicago JoesJoe and Marlene might agree....their acclaimed restaurant - Chicago Joe's, in Las Vegas, has been a vital part of their history....offering the best in Italian dining and catering some of our Club weekend banquets with their sumptuous Italian fare.

Joe's story begins with his grandmother, who was born in Palermo, Italy and came to the states in the early 20's. Chicago was the location of her first restaurant in the 50's, and seeking a warmer, drier climate the family moved to Vegas. Chicago Joe's began in 1975, and with the cozy ambiance of an Italian casa (the family converted a home into the restaurant) it soon stood out above the glitzy "Las Vegas-style" dining. Little Joe worked in the restaurant since he was a young boy. Joe originally worked in the pizza parlor in Chicago all throughout high school, so when they relocated to Las Vegas he helped turn the restaurant into what it has become today. He converted the home into a restaurant, and was also the first dishwasher! Joe worked in the kitchen, waited tables, and managed the restaurant when Uncle Joe passed away in 1988.

Marlene and Joe met at the restaurant in 1989. Marlene has worked in restaurants and catered, and had her first experience in the kitchen at Chicago Joe's. Having been taught at age 4 how to fry an egg and boil water by her mother, who promised "when you can do both of those successfully, you can do just about anything," Marlene went on to prove her mother's prediction. Marlene had to earn her way into Chicago Joe's kitchen, and Joe's mother finally agreed to allow her to learn the family recipes. Marlene has been the chef ever since.

Chicago Joe's menu consists of three generations of family recipes, including Grandma's famous Pasta e fagioli soup, Chicken Angelo, Shrimp Parmigiana, and Chicago Style lobster. On the more traditional side the Eggplant Parmigiana, the Meat Lasagna, and Calamari - one of the few restaurants that make it Sicilian style in traditional red sauce. In the middle of a desert, this is by far the best seafood anyone could ever have!

Chicago Joe's menu will be featured at the January 2012 Club Weekend event.

Santa Visits Club Spring Mountain

Ernest Hons has been a Club Member since May 2008, and with his jovial manner and long, white beard he is a natural to play Santa Claus, which he has done professionally through the years, including gigs with the Scouts, The SantaWashington Post, and Fast Eddies billiard parlor chain. This holiday season Ernest made wishes come true for fans in a Henderson, Nevada mall through Las Vegas Entertainment Productions, where they have already asked him back for next year. A few days before Christmas, Ernest arranged for a private visit to Club Spring Mountain, just to speak to three-year-old Savannah (Michael Von Quilich's employees' daughter) who is new to the area. Savannah's family bought their home from Todd Joyce (contact Todd at 702-208-4124) who works our Club Race weekends and as a local real estate professional who helps members find homes in the area. Pictured here is Santa with a delighted 3-year-old Savannah.

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Ernest spent his early years involved in SCCA as a volunteer in pit and paddock and corner worker positions, giving him the opportunity to see and be a part of races at IRP, Mid Ohio, Grattan, Road America, and others. Ernest took his first driving school in 1995 and became hooked on performance driving. At the driving school, he learned the right techniques that really work, and he has always loved Corvettes.

Ernest spent about 30 years in the Washington DC area as a Federal Contracting Officer/Contacts Manager. He retired in 2006 and relocated to Pahrump in 2008. Currently Ernest resides in Mountain Falls, Bella Sera, and is a Bachelor, but is happy with occasional relationships.

Introducing Sabrina Fares

It's hard not to notice our new Country Club Coordinator, Sabrina Fares. Her dazzling smile and vivacious energy light up the Clubhouse as she enters the room. SabrinaNot only is Sabrina smart and resourceful, she is extremely service oriented and and accommodating to our valued members. We are thrilled to have Sabrina on the staff at the Club and thought you should know a little more about her.

Sabrina hails from New York City, and she moved to Las Vegas in 2005. Going from a big city to the desert is big change, but Sabrina has thrived in her current environment (although she still prefers apartment living to single family housing.) Currently living in Las Vegas, Sabrina flourishes in the energy of the city.

A friendly 'people person' who loves building relationships, Sabrina worked in the Hotel/Hospitality Industry for 7 years, most recently at the new Cosmopolitan Hotel, specializing in Events and Wedding Planning. A self-confessed typical Leo, Sabrina was born on August 14 and has two younger sisters. Competitive in nature, she enjoys playing all sports, especially softball, and looks forward to taking on some of our members in autocross in the near future. Best to stay out of her way!

There's no challenge too difficult for Sabrina. She is full of fun new ideas for changes in our programs and services and she has already made some positive changes at the Club. Sabrina comments on her new position, saying "I love my job and always try to make our Club members' experience at the track as rewarding as possible. We've got a lot of great things happening this year at Club Spring Mountain." Sabrina looks forward to meeting and working with our members during the coming year. If you don't introduce yourself to Sabrina next time you're at the Club, it's not a problem - Sabrina will make it a point to meet you.
