Club Spring Mountain News - January 2021

Happy New Year 2021!

Cheers to a Year of New Beginnings

01 2021Wishing a very Happy New Year to our friends at Club Spring Mountain, where our resolution is to provide the most spectacular motor resort facility and services. Needless to say, 2020 was an unprecedented year, but despite a global pandemic and shut down of many businesses, including our own, we were able to forge ahead with development and new partnerships to make your Club experience more enjoyable.

Please join us in welcoming our newest member, Ray Shashaani. We look forward to seeing Ray around the Club this year!

Traditionally in January we go back in time to report on last year's accomplishments and milestones. The highlights of 2020 are listed below.

02 constructionIn February, officials in the road paving industry gathered for a live presentation from leaders in pavement recycling and paving solutions. Wulfenstein Construction, exclusive paving company for Spring Mountain, along with Topcon, featuring 3D Intelligent compacting systems, and Pavement Recycling Systems, which provides state-of-the art recycling solutions, combined their talents on a portion of the south track to showcase their latest technology. The newly repaved track has no “seams,” which is a result of 3 pavers laying down the asphalt simultaneously using a 3D controller. Members drove the newly paved section during February's race weekend.

03 simonIn March, Simon Payne from Badger Race Tech was appointed as the Chief Designer of the new section of track at Spring Mountain Motor Resort & Country Club. Simon is in charge of facilitating the design of the new road course, supervising the overall layout, creating configurations, formulating the asphalt mix, and liaising with the vendors. Under his agreement Simon continues to provide race services at all Club Race weekends

04 corvetteAlso in March, we announced that the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School would be offering enhanced two-day consumer programs featuring the all-new mid-engine Corvette. The iconic sports car marques all-new 495 horsepower mid-engine masterpiece was named 2020 Motor Trend Car of the Year and 2020 North American Car of the Year.

On March 18, Spring Mountain closed the facility as mandated by the Governor. For the health and safety of our members, students and staff, all Spring Mountain driving programs and services ceased operations. The track and limited Clubhouse facilities reopened to our members on May 15.

05 constructionIn May, Wulfenstein Construction embarked upon a major project to re-pave the facility’s North-South 2.2-mile track, the original racecourse in use when Spring Mountain was acquired in 2004. For this project GPS technology was utilized to create a 3D model for corners to be more consistent throughout the grinding and pacing process. After smoothing over certain worn areas of the track, the 3D model was used again for accuracy to ensure the new surface was smooth and consistent.

06 gridlineIn June, Gridliance, an independent electric transmission utility holding company based in Dallas, TX, and Valley Electric Association, Pahrump's own local utility company, announced they were upgrading their sub-station at the south end of the facility to ensure clean renewable energy options for Spring Mountain and the entire south end of Pahrump. The sub-station is located on property recently purchased from the BLM, and an agreement was signed for 8 acres of Raceway land to be sold to the power companies to facilitate the project.

07 trackIn October, after years of efforts by Spring Mountain representatives and governmental consultants, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service opened a 30-day public comment period on the proposed Habitat Conservation Plan for our racetrack expansion. The move followed Fish & Wildlife’s listing of the Draft Environmental Assessment and Proposed Habitat Conservation Plan document on the Federal Register. Issuance of the coveted Tortoise permit allows us to proceed with the racetrack expansion expected to commence in Spring of 2021.

08 pickleballOctober brought the newly constructed Pickleball Court for property owners in Spring Mountain Estates with groups of enthusiastic players. The latest improvement was a custom 1/4" Cushion Extreme Plus court surface, built by Dan Hanks of Cushion Tennis Courts. Dan installed his signature surface at well-known clubs such as the Manhattan Plaza Racquet Club, Chelsea Pier, Match Point Club, Pickleball Zone, and the U.S. Open.

09 radicalIn December, we unveiled the Radical SR-10, Radical’s new 425 bhp, 380 lb-ft long-life powertrain model at Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club. The SR10 delivers more power and torque than has ever been featured in Radical’s SR line-up, with a new engine and drivetrain package optimized for both performance and durability. Members were one of the first in North America to experience the Radical’s pure extreme performance with fellow Club members.

Read the historical timeline for a complete listing of our achievements since the purchase of Spring Mountain in 2004.

2020 has been a memorable year, and we are sincerely thankful for your support and belief in our vision for the Club. Wishing you and your families good health, good fortune, and happiness in 2021. Looking forward to making unforgettable memories with you in the future. Stay tuned for news about future development to be revealed in the coming months, and we’ll see you at the track!
