This month you will drive the Andretti “C” 4.0-mile course at the next Club race weekend October 16-18, the lightning-fast racing configuration for speed, agility and exhilaration.

Spring Mountain Motor Resort & Country Club is the longest track in North America with over 6-miles of road course for your driving pleasure. A state-of-the-art motorsports country club, set in a beautiful mountain backdrop, Club Spring Mountain offers the perfect environment to mingle with like-minded people and relax after a long day of adrenaline filled racing.

02 vogtThis month we are happy to welcome new members Dave and Christi Vogt, from Salem, Oregon, to the Club. Dave has been involved in the asphalt paving industry for 32 years in various management positions. As an executive with Hooker Creek in Oregon, the company won awards every year under his management for the smoothest highway paved in the state. In 2010 Dave started his own company, 7 Peaks Paving, and in 2018 he founded Asphalt Consulting Management, with the goal of developing smooth, sustainable and durable asphalt pavement systems with innovative rehabilitation solutions. Dave has always been an innovator, leading the asphalt industry in the latest technologies. Recycling in the production of asphalt pavement has always been very important to Dave, and the product is the most recycled in the world! We are honored to have Dave’s expertise on the construction team for our newly paved 2.2-mile track, and for our 3-mile racetrack expansion next year.

The warm autumn weather is perfect for a visit this month, so what are you waiting for? Now is the time to drive your own private oasis in the desert. Facility Development Update

Spring Mountain (Finally) Listed on Federal Register for Racetrack Expansion

03 turtlesSlow and Steady Wins the Race.” After years of efforts by Spring Mountain representatives and governmental consultants, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service opened a 30-day public comment period on the proposed Habitat Conservation Plan for our racetrack expansion.

The move comes after Fish & Wildlife listed the Draft Environmental Assessment and Proposed Habitat Conservation Plan document on the Federal Register this week.

04 turtlesThe Proposed Habitat Conservation Plan involves the issuance of an Incidental Take Permit, the safe removal of any Mojave Desert Tortoises (a federally threatened species) on the property, construction of a tortoise exclosure fence and subsequent development including a 3-mile racetrack expansion at the north of the facility, flood management features, classrooms, parking area and a paved paddock. Time is of the essence as we would like to start construction on the new track this spring, after the tortoises come out of hibernation.

We invite our members to make written comments supporting this Habitat Conservation Plan prior to the deadline of November 2, 2020. To submit written comments, use this link. Or you can visit http://www.regulations.gov; search for and submit comments in Docket No. FWS-R8-ES-2020-0115.

We appreciate your support and look forward to embarking upon our northern racetrack expansion project.

05 signConstruction at Spring Mountain Estates, our luxury residential development at the facility with 80 home and mixed-use lots, is moving along with new lots being purchased, homes in progress on several parcels and more dwellings scheduled to be built this season. Brad and Wendy Rambo's house is now complete, and the extended family is looking forward to spending more time at the facility enjoying all the amenities the Club has to offer. To own your own parcel in Spring Mountain Estates, contact Mike Weeks, VP of Sales, at 949-235-7810.

06 pickleballThe newly constructed Pickleball Court has been a fun addition to the estates, and is already attracting groups of enthusiastic players. Designed as an amenity exclusively for property owners at Spring Mountain Estates, the latest improvement to the court will include a custom 1/4" Cushion Extreme Plus court surface, built by Dan Hanks of Cushion Tennis Courts. In 1999 Dan patented a cushion court surface that he invented in his garage in Bend, Oregon. Over the years he has built the Cushion Tennis Court and hard surface courts at well known clubs such as the Manhattan Plaza Racquet Club, Chelsea Pier, Match Point Club, Pickleball Zone, the U.S. Open, and now at Spring Mountain Estates. This month's race weekend will feature pro Raudel Barba from the U.S. Professional Pickleball Association, with more details listed about the event below.

Terry Goodkind: 1948-2020

Member, Best-Selling Author and Friend of the Club Dies at 72

07 terryAll of us at Spring Mountain were shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of our good friend Terry Goodkind on September 17, 2020 at the age of 72. As a #1 New York Times Bestselling Author of more than 30 novels with 26 million books sold worldwide, Terry was a frequent visitor to Spring Mountain with his beloved wife Jeri. The Club was Terry's personal playground where he escaped from the stresses of his work schedule and left his public image at the front gate.

08 terry radicalTerry was a Rahl Racing team owner who exercised his love for racing by competing in the Radical USA Cup and the SMMR Light Sport Racer Series. Terry loved visiting Spring Mountain with his wife and constant companion, Jeri and their dog, Zimmer, and he offered anyone who was willing a ride in his Radical SR8. When he was in the Spring Mountain Racing shop, Terry always made the mood lighter and more entertaining. He was much more than a club member, a racer, or even an author; he was a member of the family. There was no question of Terry’s true character and genuine love for his passions, from writing to racing, and everything in between.

In the words of Terry Goodkind himself: “Life is a gift each of us has been given. Each life is our own and no one else’s. It is precious beyond all counting. It is the greatest value we can have. Cherish it for what it truly is…Your life is yours alone. Rise up and live it.” Terry, your passing is a huge loss for your Spring Mountain family, and you will be deeply missed by all of us.
