Happy New Year 2024

"To Finish First, you must First Finish" - Rick Mears

01 2024Are you ready for a spectacular New Year? Warmest wishes for a Happy 2024 to our members and friends at Club Spring Mountain. We look back fondly on the past year and ahead to the new year with anticipation and excitement. This year and always, our objective is to continue to provide the finest motor resort facility with top amenities and service for our valued members. 2023 was a momentous year, with significant developments and new partnerships formed to make your Club experience memorable and FUN.

Traditionally in January, we look back on the previous year to remember events, accomplishments, and milestones. The highlights of 2023 are listed below.

02 lineupJanuary 2023 – We embarked on the new year with exciting development projects and plans for big changes to the skyline at the facility. The Lake Spring Mountain area was set for a major redevelopment with 36 RV spaces, plans for a large, resort-style pool, and an expansion of the existing Aquatic center. Grading for this project began at the beginning of 2023; however, new zoning requirements halted the development in the fall. Additionally, construction commenced on a .80-mile pro-Kart Track, by the newly formed Spring Mountain Karting. Both projects, currently at a standstill due to stricter zoning requirements, will resume in the first quarter of 2024.

03 racersFebruary 2023 - To boost perimeter security, a state-of-the-art commercial drone was acquired. The drone increased safety around our 933-acre facility and gave our security team the ability to monitor distant areas quickly and efficiently without leaving their posts for extended periods. The Mavic 3 Enterprise 3T with night and thermal vision spots unwanted movement in the dark.

March 2023 - The state-of-the-art Race America Electronic flagging system was completed, under the supervision of Zac Dowdell, Director of Special Projects. Also in March, two 5,000-square-foot storage buildings were completed, along with the surrounding paving.

04 towerApril 2023 - Construction began on a multi-story control tower with a designated section for race spotters soaring 55 feet above the track, providing visibility of the entire Charleston Peak race circuit. The tower consists of a lower lounge area on the first floor, with the second and third floors designated for track viewing and the fourth floor utilized for race control.

June 2023 - Spring Mountain Karting engaged the services of Dave Hodsoll, owner of SIM Circuit, to create a simulator program to preview the exhilarating world of kart racing on Spring Mountain Karting’s new pro-track, enabling karters to drive the .80-mile pro-track before it’s built.

05 cheerOctober 2023 - The Club Spring Mountain Fitness Center was completely transformed, with the addition of the latest in high-tech weight-room equipment. New state-of-the-art fitness equipment includes a new elliptical, a new treadmill, a Peloton, and a TRX.

06 watchtowerNovember 2023 - New Clubhouse kitchen improvements and upgrades to our safety and security at Spring Mountain were completed, including: (1) A new walk-in freezer and refrigerator and kitchen equipment upgrades, increasing our food service capacity to meet our growing needs; (2) Newly refinished decks around the Clubhouse and Pool; (3) A new security camera system with instant feedback, including 100 cameras, a mobile viewing app, and more storage for security videos; (4) A new gate system, ensuring all who enter are approved to be on property, increasing the safety of our members and homeowners; (5) An on-track lighting system installed at Charleston Peak, giving us multiple tiers of flagging options; (6) Track cameras, allowing for faster assessment and reaction times, and instant playback for Race Directors to make calls on the fly; and (7) The addition of multiple mobile high-tech fire suppression systems, allowing us to respond to incidents quickly and extract the driver safely, minimizing damage to the race car and the track.

November 2023 – Construction on the multi-story luxury Control Tower was completed, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on November 30, during Race Weekend festivities. The tower features a section for race spotters and soars 55 feet above the track, providing perfect visibility of our newest premier race circuit, Charleston Peak.

Debut of New Race Timing System

State-of-the art GPS tracking system Testing begins this Weekend

08 raceIn motorsports, milliseconds often define who is the ultimate winner of the race. That’s why it’s so important to use timing systems that help achieve the best and most accurate timing results for our races. This weekend we will begin beta testing a new GPS tracking system we're considering using here at Spring Mountain. This system takes our existing abilities with My Laps to the next level and would enable us to have live tracking of locations and speed of the vehicles around the track. The new system will provide better understanding to drivers on their segment times, overall lap times, and how to find that last second you've been chasing. We are in the early stages of understanding how this new tool can work within our existing systems around the track and would appreciate your participation by allowing us to put new GPS transponders in your cars while you are on track. Getting the transponders in multiple cars at race pace will be a good step in our understanding of how it will interact with the facility and infrastructure. We look forward to seeing how our new system will add to your overall experience at Spring Mountain.

In Remembrance...Sgt. Michael Abbate 1985-2023

Beloved Club Member Killed in the Line of Duty November 30

18 winnersSgt. Michael Abbate was more than just a Nevada state trooper. He was a devoted husband, a caring father, a loving brother, an adored son, a loyal friend, a respected Club Spring Mountain member, and a racing fanatic who loved anything that involved a motor. We first met Michael several years ago when he took over as the lead instructor and coordinator for the Nevada Highway Patrol EVOC training, where we worked with him to schedule their on-track driver training.

19 kenny northrupGrowing up in racing himself, Michael was an occasional guest driver of Kenny Northrup and Jim Balestrieri until he became an official member himself less than six months ago. He joined his sister Michele who has been a member for several years. In the short time of his membership, it was fun to see him competing with his sister on the track.

We were saddened to learn that on November 30, Michael and his partner Trooper Alberto Felix were killed in the line of duty. Our condolences go out to his parents, his sister Michele, his wife Vanessa, and his son Vince. Michael's competitive and joyful spirit will live on with us during every lap. View the December Race Highlights Video for a special tribute to Michael.
