The weather is crisp and cool and the festive Season at the Club is now in full swing. New and returning racers can participate in both the Bracket-style and Radical competitions at the Club Race weekend on November 19-20 and December 3-4, so ALL makes and models of cars can participate in the excitement. Begin your holiday season with a huge adrenaline rush and an extended weekend, as this month our valued members will enjoy exclusive use of the full track Thursday and Friday before the big race weekend. There’s lots of fun in store for you and fellow racers during the final two months of the year, so consult our Calendar for all the upcoming events!

All the benefits of membership await your guests while you’re playing on the track, including working out in the fitness center, having a massage, putting on the green, using the pool and jacuzzi, racquetball, or visiting with members and friends in the Club lounge.

Let us be a home away from home for you and your guests this holiday season! Our 16-unit Residential Condominium/Garage Building is now complete. The new building features 16 luxury condominiums with kitchenettes and will allow you and your guests more space for overnight stays in comfort, style and convenience during high-demand holiday Club weekends. Many of the units have two queen beds to accommodate larger families. We’re constantly evolving at Spring Mountain as plans will soon be unveiled for future development at our state-of-the-art facility for motorsports enthusiasts.

Club Member News

Michael Von Quilich Races Daytona in Viper Cup

We’ve been following Charter Member Michael & Virginia Von Quilich’s race season in the Dodge Viper Cup Series. Michael reports on his experience, “Virginia and I had a wonderful time. The Daytona International Speedway has no noise restrictions which is cool considering they run the Rolex 24 hour endurance race every year. The track is a gigantic tri-oval and when first entering the track, the 31 degree banking is very intimidating, in fact, you can’t walk up the steep banks without falling. On Friday, I raced in a 1.5 hour enduro which helped me learn the track.”

The Viper Cup finals attracted some very high level pro drivers; a two time LeMans winner, last year’s Daytona 24 Hour winner, an Indy driver and two drivers who recently set world records at Nurburgring. The track is extremely fast, and Michael was hitting 180 MPH in his Red & White Viper #19 on the front straight which is banked about 6 degrees. The back straight has a high speed bus stop where the racers enter at about 140 MPH. If you miss the right line by just a few inches, you get into trouble fast. At the race, several cars spun and hit the inside wall, but not Michael. He says, “I was grateful for the bus stop at Spring Mountain, the experience paid off for me!”

Michael finished 9th in the final race, which was good enough for 6th in the overall standings, and sums up the last race in the 2011 Dodge Viper Cup Series by saying “We were very proud of our finish, if the pro drivers hadn’t shown up for the last race, we would have finished 4th. We feel fortunate to have raced at such a famous facility!” Congratulations to Michael and his team!

Holiday Club Race Weekends

Join us for final two Club Races of the Year!

Get ready for another phenomenal weekend race for members of Club Spring Mountain. The next Club Spring Mountain Race Weekend of the season is November 19-20, 2011 and it’s going to be a fun and festive holiday event! We are expecting the largest field of Radicals and Sports Cars ever at this race, with drivers competing for big year-end trophies and special prizes. Remember, there are only TWO more Club races left to accumulate points for the year-end banquet and trophy presentation to be held on December 3, 2011. The popular new Bracket-style race will be held both Saturday and Sunday, which includes ALL makes of Sports Cars! Important: The Bracket Race will now include Sports Cars ONLY. Slower cars and drivers will start the race with a time advantage over faster and more experienced drivers, so everyone has an equal chance to win the contest. Please note the full track will be dedicated our members on Thursday and Friday, November 17-18, so you can prepare for the race.

Please mark your calendars to attend this pre-Thanksgiving event, which will include back-to-back run sessions all day, a Radical and Bracket-style race on both Saturday and Sunday, and a special Clubhouse dinner on Saturday night, November 19, 2011. On Saturday we will be running the 3.4-mile track, and on Sunday the 2.7-mile course will be in use. A complimentary continental breakfast will be served in the Clubhouse each day, and the price for lunches is $15.00 per person with pre-registration or $20.00 at the event, and dinner is $35.00 per person, not including alcoholic beverages at the bar.

We hope to have a GREAT turnout at the Clubhouse Dinner on Saturday night, so please make your plans to join us at this fun event. Dinner will be catered by Ohjah, Japanese cuisine, served Hibachi style with a choice of three meats; Chicken Teriyaki, Filet Mignon and Shrimp Teppanyaki. We are also going to offer as a courtesy to our members complimentary sake bombs. Don’t forget to RSVP for lunch and dinner to ensure enough food will be prepared for you and your guests.

Club members are cordially invited to participate in both the Radical and Bracket-style races. The cost for the race weekend for members and guests is $450.00 per day, which includes race fees and full track support. Invite your friends and family to come out and be your cheerleaders in one of our many race-viewing venues at the facility. With consecutive 25-minute sessions in Race Car, Sports Car and Novice Groups, you’ll have the time of your life as you compete with your fellow members at this unforgettable weekend race.

Special Award from England….Radical UK, manufacturers of the Radical Extreme Sports Car, has offered a spectacular prize for two lucky Spring Mountain series drivers. Radical UK is offering an all-costs paid drive at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium in 2012 to the top two drivers in the Club Spring Mountain Powertec Race Series for 2011. And, as a bonus, they are also providing a day of testing with a world-class European professional driver. Two prizes will be awarded….to the winners of the SR3 and Unlimited Class categories. Known as “the most beautiful circuit in the world,” Spa Francorchamps’ famous race course is over 4.3-miles long. Prizes are offered only to those who have the most points in the Club Spring Mountain Powertec series, so don’t miss the last Club Race so you can be eligible for the prize! (Prize value – $10,000)

December Club Race Weekend, Banquet and Awards Ceremony….. please make your plans now to join us at the December Club Race weekend on Saturday-Sunday, December 3-4 for the final race contest of the year. On Saturday night, December 3 you are invited for celebratory “no-host” Cocktails in the bar, followed by a festive catered dinner and Awards Ceremony. Trophies will be awarded for both the Radical and Miata series races in 2011. Celebrate the holidays and the end of the 2011 season with old and new friends you’ve raced with all year. The Miata Race Series Braves the Rain in November

Rounds 15 and 16 of the Club Spring Mountain Miata Race Series (CSMMRS) were held last weekend, November 5-6, 2011. Saturday’s contest was a 45 minute “sprint” around the 1.5 Radical Loop. Less than 2 seconds covered the top three finishers with Michael Von Quilichcapturing first place and locking up the series championship. Fred Chin took second place and Chris Chamberlin completed the podium in third while setting fastest lap for the race.

Sunday’s action found the Miatas running on the 3.4 mile course. Michael Von Quilich scored his 10th win of the season, while Tony Zito grabbed second place and tighten his hold on second in the series championship. Lee Mixon held onto third and captured his second podium in as many weekends.
