Spring Forward to new Experiences at the Club!
After a mild winter in the beautiful Mojave Desert, it’s time to celebrate the beginning of Spring at your very own desert oasis. 
Club Spring Mountain is the perfect location to gather with your fellow members and friends to have the time of your life while you improve your driving on the track. While you’re testing your skills on Spring Mountain’s road course, your guests will love the amenities of their own private club in a luxurious setting. You can work out in the fitness center, enjoy a pampering massage by Tina (our members and guests rave about her healing hands), relax in a hot jacuzzi or just kick back in the lounge, have a cigar at the outdoor fire pit, order a drink at the bar, catch up with old friends and meet new ones. With all the fun activities to experience here at the Club, in addition to the thrills of driving, it’s no wonder more and more members are spending time at the club!
This month is filled with exciting activities and fun events with track organizations so you should catch all the action at the club in March! We’re hosting the Porsche Owner’s Club this weekend on March 9-10-11 and it’s going to be a huge event! Members are invited to drive with the Porsche Owners. For more information about this event, view the POC Event Information page. Our Club Race Weekend will be held on March 17-18, with lots of fun and festive activities planned. More and more of our members are joining the fun in the Club Miata Race Series that was held last weekend, March 3-4, 2011. Later this month we will be hosting Track Xperience and the Las Vegas PCA at the facility, so please refer to our Event Calendar to choose your dates to visit the track this month.

First Miata Race for 2012 Held Last Weekend
The Club Spring Mountain Miata Race Series (CSMMRS) held its first competition of the 2012 series last weekend, March 3-4 2012. The Mazda Miata series is intended to provide Club Spring Mountain 
members an inexpensive race series whose sole focus is safe competitive wheel to wheel racing, driver development, and good sportsmanship. The series, which includes 18 races featuring Sprints, Enduro and night racing, is a championship based on the best 14 of 18 finishes to give drivers flexibility with their schedules. To ensure competitive racing, all Miatas must meet specific rules. Most importantly, the racers are all having lots of fun, and last weekend was no exception.

Club Race Weekend – March 17-18, 2012
Don’t Miss March’s Race Contest and St. Patrick’s Day Party
Join us this month to watch and/or participate in the Radical Series and Sports Car competition to be held on March 17-18, 2012. 
There’s something for everyone – Radical or Sports Car fans, enjoy your fellow members and participate in all the excitement. We have a private event renting the track on Thursday and Friday before the race, so to accommodate our racers we are allowing the members to enter the track on Thursday and Friday evening from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm so you can have as much time to prepare for the race as possible. We are expecting a large field of Radicals and Sports Cars at the race, with drivers competing for points and trophies at the end of the year. Now is your chance to keep up the momentum through the Spring season!

Please mark your calendars to attend this big event, which will include a mandatory driver’s meeting at 8:30 am on Saturday and 8:30 am on Sunday, back-to-back run sessions all day, a Radical race on both Saturday and Sunday, and a special “St. Paddy’s Day” Clubhouse dinner on Saturday night, March 17, 2012. On Saturday we will be running the 3.4-mile track, including the full straight and the second bus stop, and on Sunday the 3.4-mile course will be in use (with both straights.) A complimentary continental breakfast will be served in the Clubhouse each day, and the price for lunches is $15.00 per person with pre-registration or $20.00 at the event, and dinner is $35.00 per person with pre-registration or $40.00 at the event, not including alcoholic beverages at the bar.

A very special evening has been planned for you on Saturday, March 17, 2012. Chicago Joe’s Restaurant will be catering a sumptuous St. Patrick’s Day dinner, and will also provide the Saturday lunch meal. Blaze’n’Moon, a local Classic Rock band, will be providing live entertainment for us during the banquet, so be sure to wear your favorite green outfit and don’t forget your dancing shoes.

Karting on the 1.2-mile track, Saturday March 17. Back by popular demand, members can enjoy karting on the skid pad on Saturday March 17 from 4:30 – 5:30 pm. Bring your own kart and please note that there is no karting on the paddock. It is essential that you transport your kart to the karting warm-up area. In addition, you must have a proper Suit, helmet, neck brace and closed toe shoes to drive the karts on the track. Enjoy!
Sunday Tire Raffle! Win a set of Dunlop Tires in a special raffle after the Sunday race. Members who have participated in both days’ events are eligible for this special raffle. Last month’s winner of the Dunlop Tire raffle was Gary Eyler – congratulations Gary!

Pro Racer Helps Members Attain Faster Lap Times
Jeff Shafer Provides Expert Tuning and Analysis for Club Members
Many of our members have seen Jeff Shafer around the Club providing Radical driving instruction before Club race weekends. A soft spoken, consistently fast driver with an easygoing manner, Jeff has become a popular instructor among Club Spring Mountain members. 
Jeff started racing at age 12, and through practice and dedication became a karting and open wheel champion. He has raced on dirt and asphalt ovals, street and road courses. In 2005 Jeff started working with Spring Mountain’s Radical Division and has taken his Radical Ventures Arrive and Drive racing team to tracks throughout the southwest. Jeff has spent countless hours studying the Radicals, analyzing our members’ driving technique, setting up cars, and training Radical owners and club members how to maximize their potential as a Radical driver, and he is a valuable resource to our members as a private driving instructor.
Not only is Jeff an accomplished Radical racer, he is a dedicated connoisseur of the art and science of driving. Jeff works along with our mechanical staff and engine builders to tune your Radical for maximum speed, balance and smoothness on the track. Using specialized computer programs with track overlays, Jeff can analyze your driving technique and work with you to suggest the fastest “driving line” so you can continue to improve your lap times and ultimately attain better race finishes. Most of our members request that Jeff drive their Radical on the track for a few laps so he can make suggestions about fine tuning their car. Then, they drive the track together while Jeff makes suggestions for improvement. Our members who have hired Jeff as an instructor can measure their success rate with faster lap times and they have been extremely pleased with their marked improvement after a session or two with the expert.
