Longer Days, Races and Celebrations at the Club this Month

After a beautiful winter in the Mojave Desert, it’s time to celebrate the beginning of Spring at your oasis in the sun. Longer days at Club Spring Mountain bring more hours of fun at our 6-mile track which now holds the record as the longest road course in North America. While perfecting your own driving skills your guests can enjoy luxurious comforts, work out in the fitness center, schedule a massage with Tina (our members and guests rave about her healing hands), relax in a bubbling spa, enjoy the outdoor fire pit, order a drink at the bar, catch up with old friends and meet new ones. With all the activities to experience along with the thrills of driving the newly expanded road course it’s no wonder more members and guests are spending time at the Club.

This month is filled with exciting activities and events. Our Club Race Weekend will be held on March 15-16, and more of our members are joining the fun in the Miata, Lotus and Radical Race Series. The Radical Cup traveling race series begins at Miller Motorsports Park later this month, followed by 7 exciting weekends of racing throughout the year. Radical Cup USA Kicks off 2014 Series

2nd Season Begins this month in Utah

The Radical Cup USA is the most exciting sports car series in the world for racers and spectators. An instant success in North America, last year the Radical Cup attracted over 40 competitors in its inaugural season, and we are proud that many of the top finishers are members of Club Spring Mountain.

Competitors can choose to race three different models from the world’s largest racing car manufacturer, Radical Sports Cars UK.

SR3 – 270hp 4 Cylinder / Open Cockpit / Purpose Built Racing Car
SR8 – 460hp Bespoke V8 / Open Cockpit / Purpose Built Racing Car
RXC Coupe – V6 Ford EcoBoost / Closed Cockpit / Road Going Hypercar

Unique to the Radical Cup, equal emphasis will be placed on each class with the champion awarded a test in a European Le Mans Prototype (LMP). The three class champions will also be recognized with a race in Europe driving a factory-prepared SR8 in the Radical Masters Euroseries.

An official event of Radical Sportscars UK, the series is backed in North America by Spring Mountain and our sister club, the Monticello Motor Club of New York.

Through Radical West and Powertec America, the Radical Cup offers competitively priced Arrive and Drive packages as well as complete trackside support, spare parts and Dunlop tire service.

Offering the ultimate experience on and off the track, the Radical Cup features a VIP Hospitality area complete with catering for drivers and guests at every round. Three separate races are held each race weekend, including a reverse grid race. Events are held over three days, with a full day of testing on Friday preceding two days of competition on Saturday and Sunday. Drivers must have prior racing experience and hold a current racing license with NARRA, SCCA, NASA, IMSA or the FIA. The Chief Steward may also approve drivers with club racing experience Radical Race June 2013 in a Radical.

Competitors must have a legal car to participate in the race series consisting of Radical supplied parts, Dunlop tires, and a sealed Powertec engine. Existing Radical owners are advised to contact Radical West to confirm eligibility.

Club Race Weekend – March 15-16

Sun and Fun are on the Agenda for Race Weekend

Join us for another action-packed Club race weekend, with mild, sunny weather in the forecast! The excitement begins on Saturday with a Drivers Meeting at 8:00 am, followed by 25 minutes of Orientation laps at 50 mph speeds (flashers required.) 25-minute sessions (Radicals, Sports Cars and non-racers) for practice, fun and qualifying will run throughout the day. Once again this month we will feature TWO separate Radical races…a rookie race and an SR3/Unlimited Contest. A combined Miata/Lotus Race will also be held on Saturday and Sunday.

This month we will run the Schumacher “B” 3.56-mile fast and furious road course on both Saturday and Sunday. Your Thursday and Friday morning practice sessions will be held on the 2.1-mile east track so you can prepare for the big race. On Friday afternoon, after the end of the GM program, we will open up the entire track to members.

Please note the Club Condominiums will not be available for rental on Thursday evenings for the duration of the Corvette Dealer program. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday rentals are available by reservation through Erik Odegard, Members Coordinator. Please contact Erik for Thursday night room options. Members will have full use of the Clubhouse for administration, restrooms, pool, spa, fitness center and massages at any time during the GM program, even during the week. The only restriction is during actual meal times and just a portion of the clubhouse will be affected.

Our new interior road allows direct access to the new section of the property from the front gate. Executive Chef Susan will be hosting member lunches on Thursdays and Friday on race weekends in the multi-purpose building adjacent to the new track.

Saturday night Banquet! You and your guests are invited to join us for an evening of cocktails, dinner and celebration at the Clubhouse on Saturday night, with a delicious menu by Executive Chef Susan. Throughout the race weekend buffet breakfasts are included in your race fees. Lunches are $15.00 with pre-registration or $20.00 at the event, and Dinner is $35.00 with pre-registration or $40.00 at the event.

In Remembrance

Raymond Alan Hofman, Charter Member, died February 18, 2014 at the age of 38 in a plane accident in Breckenridge, Texas. Ray was born June 20, 1975, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He graduated from Oak Park High School in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1993. Ray began his passion for the oil industry working as a roughneck with Red Hawk in Saskatchewan. His unique abilities were noticed by Packers Plus, which eventually brought him to Midland, Texas in May 2002. His talent, vision, and the support of those who believed in him led him to start Peak Completion Technologies in December 2003. His passion was not limited to entrepreneurship. Ray lived fast, as a racecar driver, a pilot, a cyclist, a horseman, a hunter, a musician, a photographer, a patriot, a competitor and a mentor. He was life. An avid collector, his largest collection of which he was most proud, were his friends and family.

Our deepest condolences are extended to Ray’s family. He will be missed by his friends and by the staff at the Club.
