On the Rise
New Construction, Evolving Spaces, and a Look Ahead

May is underway at Club Spring Mountain, bringing longer days and a full schedule across the property. From early-morning track sessions to evenings by the lake, activity is picking up, with new Radical Drivers on the track (see below), and the season is in full swing.
That momentum is reflected in continued progress at Charleston Peak. The new 9,000-square-foot warehouse facility (pictured above) is now going vertical and coming together quickly. Designed to expand support for our members, the project is on track to be completed in the coming months. We are currently open to conversations around occupancy, with flexibility for multiple tenants.
It’s an exciting time at the Club, with visible progress and a continued focus on enhancing the overall member experience.

Work continues behind the scenes on a new collection of member garages, thoughtfully designed to blend functionality with elevated style. Concepts currently include 6-car garage spaces paired with studio-style lofts above—complete with sleeping areas, kitchenettes, and private baths. Each space is being developed with its own distinct aesthetic, from clean and classic to industrial-inspired loft living.
Renderings remain available in the Clubhouse for those who would like a closer look, with early planning still pointing toward Spring 2027. In the meantime, ongoing refinements across the property continue to enhance the overall member experience. More exciting enhancements are in the works, so stay tuned.
We look forward to seeing you at the track, around the lake, and throughout the Club as the season continues. Your presence is what brings it all together.

Back in the Driver’s Seat
A familiar face returns to racing…with a new Radical

For those who’ve been lucky enough to experience it, the draw of the track never really goes away.
We’re excited to share that longtime member Shahin Mobine has returned to racing, taking delivery of a stunning new 2025 Radical SR3 XXR. Finished in a striking blue and orange wrap and configured with a 1500cc engine and center seat driving position, the car is as purposeful as it is eye-catching.
Shahin commented on his return.“After eight years away from the racetrack, what brought me back to Spring Mountain was not only the incredible updates but the new sense of family the Club has created. It’s amazing to see so many members and drivers coming to race weekends with their families, and with so many activities for kids, the experience truly becomes more special. On non-race weekends, when my kids are asking to go back—that’s when I know I’ll be coming out more often.”

Shahin’s return is a powerful reflection of what continues to draw members back to Spring Mountain—an experience that extends well beyond the track.

At The Chandler School, education extends far beyond the classroom. Under the leadership of Dana Blackhurst, students step into a hands-on learning environment where real-world experience leads, and motorsports plays a powerful role.
An internationally recognized educator, Dana is known for his innovative approach to teaching and program development. He has been recognized as one of South Carolina’s most creative leaders. He has built programs that introduce hands-on, real-world learning at an early age, including a K–8 automotive curriculum. His work has been published, and universities and schools across the country regularly seek his insight as they develop their own programs.
At Chandler, that philosophy comes to life through motorsports. Students are introduced to engineering, teamwork, problem-solving, and the discipline required to perform at a high level, while taking on meaningful responsibility along the way.
For the past four years, Chandler students have competed in the World Racing League with a BMW M2, serving as pit crew in live race environments. Their involvement extends to Trans Am and SCCA competition in the SPO, SGT, and GT2 classes, where students serve as both spotters and crew.

They’ve worked alongside racing legend Doug Richert and have competed at premier tracks including Daytona International Speedway, Road Atlanta, Barber Motorsports Park, Circuit of the Americas, Road America, and Watkins Glen International, with plans to head to Indianapolis Motor Speedway this summer.
It’s in these high-performance environments where something remarkable happens. Students, many of whom thrive in nontraditional settings, step into roles that demand focus and composure, including spotting cars at 175 mph at Daytona. The confidence they build carries far beyond the track.
Beyond competition, students take part in immersive experiences at events like the Indianapolis 500 and the Walter Mitty Challenge, while a new car from Howe Racing Enterprises adds another layer of hands-on learning.
Dana’s connection to Spring Mountain runs deep. A member since the early 2000s, he reflects on those early days with a mix of humor and appreciation:

“I was called ‘the tortoise’—I’d just drive and drive. The nickname stuck after I once stopped for an actual tortoise crossing the track (there’s a proper way to pick them up, by the way). What I remember most is the camaraderie—Dr. Mark Saroyan and the Miata group, everyone was incredible. Even now, when I’m racing, I still hear those voices—thinking about risk versus reward, remembering what I learned out there. I just don’t get to spend enough time at Spring Mountain… that’s my biggest complaint.”
That foundation continues to shape both his racing and his teaching. The Spring Mountain community has remained part of that journey, with members like Michele Abbate spending time with students and sharing their experience.
The Chandler School operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and for those interested in supporting or getting involved, the program continues to welcome connections.

Full Throttle Weekend
Racing, Hospitality, and the Best of the Club on the Lauda C North/South

Join us May 7–10 for Race Weekend on the Lauda C North/South 2.6-mile course. With sunny skies, warm temperatures, thrilling racing, and time to enjoy everything the Club has to offer, it’s shaping up to be a weekend you won’t want to miss. For the non-racers, the West Course will be open for your enjoyment.
On Friday evening, come hungry and ready to unwind as Chef Adam, Shay Amundson, and the Clubhouse Hospitality team serve up a crowd favorite with a Southern twist—we’re throwing a Southern Seafood Boil at Lake Spring Mountain.
| Join us at sunset under the Pavilion at the lake and enjoy a generous spread featuring crab, shrimp, lobster tails, and clams, paired with andouille sausage, potatoes, and corn on the cob. For those craving something off the grill, a BBQ station will offer brisket, ribs, chicken, and hot links. And to top it all off, indulge in made-to-order rolled ice cream for dessert. Dinner will be available from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. | | |

Karting at Full Speed
Race 4 of Spring Mountain Karting Series Returns May 10

The action continues at the Spring Mountain Karting Complex as Race 4 of the SMK Race Series returns on May 10. With each round, the competition tightens, the racing gets sharper, and the energy around the kart track continues to build.
Whether you’re a seasoned driver or looking to get more involved, the SMK Race Series offers an exciting, accessible way to experience wheel-to-wheel racing in a fast-paced, competitive environment. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with fellow members, sharpen your skills, and enjoy a different side of the Club’s motorsports experience.
The karting program continues to grow, drawing both members and guests to the track and creating a dynamic atmosphere that’s as fun to watch as it is to participate in.
Join us on May 10 and be part of the action—we’ll see you at the kart track.
