Club Spring Mountain News - June 2018

Reflecting on 14 Years of Growth

The Twists and Turns Make it all Worthwhile

01 acreageThe years have flown by since Spring Mountain partners purchased 193-acres of desert land in June, 2004 with a 2.2-mile road course, a driving school with a fleet of 8 Corvettes, two tent structures and portable restrooms. A visionary's dreams led us to the destination now known as Spring Mountain Motor Resort & Country Club. Reality has surpassed expectations, and we are still striving to create a motorsports experience second-to-none in the world.

02 staffDuring this journey we have been lucky to work with the most incredible staff, some of whom have been with us since the beginning and share our passion for providing exceptional products and services to valued Club members, their families and friends. The team works hard all year to provide smooth-running, fun and successful events for our members and we cannot thank them enough for their tireless efforts. Our success is truly due to their loyalty and commitment to the Spring Mountain vision.

03 commercialpropertyOur dream to provide a total destination for members and guests will soon be realized with the closing of escrow on 7 acres of Commercial property at the entrance to the facility, sold to a leader in the industry, Majestic Realty Co. Majestic is the largest privately-owned industrial developer in the United States and we are honored to work with them to pave the way for our inaugural commercial offering. The first phase of development, including a major brand 110 room all-suite hotel and casino, restaurant and retail shops will be breaking ground in the Fall. Preparations are underway for the start of construction. Pictured is work in progress by Valley Electric Company to move several power lines for the hotel project.

04 constructionSpring Mountain Estates, our private residential community at the facility, is a reality, and the first property owners to begin construction are Brandon and Chelse Rambo with an expected completion date in the fall.

Our accomplishments would not have been possible without the support of our enthusiastic Club members who encouraged our ideas and were with us every step of the way. Please join us in celebrating 14 remarkable years of growth, innovation and achievements at Spring Mountain.

Club Members Endorse Nevada Leadership

Join us to Support Politicans Who Promote our Growth

05 deanhellerLast month we sponsored an informal lunch in support of U.S. Senator Dean Heller, and members have requested secure links for campaign donations. Spring Mountain is working with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in our acquisition of 600 acres adjacent to the facility and we have benefited by our local politicans’ support and guidance during the process. James Oscarson, Nevada Assemblyman in the 36th District, has provided tremendous leadership in our expansion endeavors. Pictured are Senator Heller and Assemblyman Oscarson addressing members during last month's race weekend.

We ask that you consider a contribution to Senator Heller and Assemblyman Oscarson’s campaigns. It is essential that both politicians continue their good work to safeguard our future development, along with tackling corporate growth, tax reform, programs for veterans and other important issues facing our country today.

To learn more about the candidates, or to make a tax-deductible campaign contribution, visit James Oscarson and Dean Heller's online headquarters.

Experience the Ultimate Adrenaline Rush

New Beginnings and Big Plans for the Future of the Club

01 hwy signJoin the fun at Club Spring Mountain for a lifestyle of adrenaline pursuits and more.
Drive the longest road course in North America and try our 6.1-mile circuit in a myriad of configurations. 8 different varieties are on the calendar this month alone to test your skills! With the sun shining year-round on our oasis in the desert, we are forecasting a bright future ahead for our members with new amenities to experience. Now is the time to make Club Spring Mountain your home away from home.

Talk about first impressions! Nobody will miss us now...a new electronic billboard soaring 30 feet into the desert skies was recently erected at the entrance to the facility on Highway 160. The landmark, designed by High Impact Signs, measures 16x16 feet with a 12'x8' electronic display, featuring the Spring Mountain logo rising above the platform at the summit. This illuminated landmark is guaranteed to light up the area day and night.

02 brandonchelseababyA big welcome to our newest members, Albert Youngwerth and Nathan Schweigart. And a shout-out to our youngest new member, Brixton Rambo, Brandon and Chelse's newborn son, who enjoyed some rookie seat time at last month's race weekend.

03 sports car invitationalCelebrate with us at the upcoming Sports Car Invitational, May 4-6, with exciting events planned and three memorable days of driving. Bring your friends who have been wanting to drive on the Spring Mountain track and enjoy the festivities. 05 track plotWe are still growing strong, with plans being formulated for the acquisition and development of 620 acres adjacent to the facility. The BLM land makes it possible for us to build new track, more paddock areas, and even an airstrip capable of landing our members' jets. We currently have the longest track in North America, but our goal is to build the longest road course in the world. The proposed layout at right is a schematic of a 16.07-mile track with countless numbers of potential driving configurations. (Please note this layout is subject to change.)

Our $13.4 Million Water and Sewer Treatment project is continuing on schedule and is nearly complete. The cul-de-sac lots have had their final grade, and paving of the area will continue during the next two weeks, with a final cap expected at the end of the month. Silverton Casino Resort’s plans are moving along for its mixed-use development project on a 7-acre portion of the commercial land at the entrance. Facility Development Update

Big Changes to the Skyline Coming Soon

03 Water TanksHere's the latest news from the construction zone...significant progress has been made on the $13.4 Million Water and Sewer Treatment Project. Paving on the main road from the Aquatic center to existing member’s homes has just been completed. The massive water tanks to supply the development have been installed and are scheduled for painting. Water, sewer, electric and fiber services have been connected for all track side lots, and a six foot block wall is under construction along property lines. Soon the primary sewer tanks will arrive on the property, and weather permitting, we remain on schedule for completion of the project this spring.

Planning for the new Spring Mountain Commercial Center, which will be open to the public, is progressing rapidly. Nevada Department of Transportation approved a separate entrance to the commercial center, and Silverton Resort & Casino's team of developers are conducting traffic studies, drainage and electrical line surveys prior to the beginning of construction. The Energy Project Next Door

Energy Storage Train to be built near Spring Mountain

05 aresA unique clean energy development is now underway in our own back yard. Advanced Rail Energy Storage, LLC “ARES” was recently granted a lease by the Bureau of Land Management on acreage near Spring Mountain. The 50-megawatt project will be comprised of 106 acres of public land with a goal to help stabilize the electric grid.

Using the power of gravity, ARES Nevada will store energy and release it when needed. As the system doesn’t require the use of water, it is perfect for the desert with minimal environmental impact. Using a railroad track on a 7.2% slope, multiple electric locomotive cars move up the grade as they receive excess power from solar and wind power plants during sunny and windy days. The train cars will remain available and, when needed, will be dispatched slowly downhill, using their motor-generators to return power to the electricity grid.

This is the first project of its kind in the world, requiring no water or fossil fuels, and creating no hazardous waste or emissions – right here in Pahrump, Nevada!

For more information about the project, visit the ARES website.

Spring Mountain Expansion

BLM Land Acquisition News

04 BLM propertyJoel Oscarson, Director of Strategic Development, reports we are steadily moving forward with the purchase of the land adjacent to the track from the Bureau of Land Management. Joel notes, "The land is nearly 630 acres and located directly to the north and east of the facility. The small section of land connecting the northern and eastern parcels is of great strategic value due to the connectivity of the two vital areas of the property. That section must be configured to mitigate an issue with the West Wide Energy Corridor (WWEC); therefore the parcel was designed to support the land release to submit to the BLM. The process of purchasing the land has begun and we have been given approximately 9 -12 months to close on the property. Delegates from both sides of party lines are involved with us to acquire the property to continue growth here at Spring Mountain."

Member News

Passings, Weddings and Italian Car Testing

Sad news this month about the loss of two special friends of the Club...Carol Carlson and Gary Goulet. They will be missed by members and staff at Club Spring Mountain.

08 carlson familyCarol Carlson, mother of Platinum Member Terry Carlson, passed away peacefully on September 11 in Pahrump, Nevada. Born in 1932, Carol was a huge supporter of her son Terry, his beautiful wife Monica, and the Club Spring Mountain experience in general. She loved being at the track and attended nearly every race, spending time with members and staff dispensing her sassy sense of humor. Nearly everyone had a funny story about Carol, and she was known for "eating her weight in cookies" when she visited the clubhouse.

You are invited to join Terry and Monica in the Radical Showroom Friday night, October 13 at 5:30 pm for a champagne toast to honor Carol's memory.

09 gary goulet fred chinClub Member Garrett W. Goulet passed at home July 30 from Cancer. Gary was born in Salem, Oregon in 1941, and grew up on a hop farm. He earned a BS in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University. While in Seattle, he met and married Dee Ann Day, his wife of forty-eight years. Gary and Dee Ann lived in Boise for over 40 years. Gary loved Porsches and bought his first one at age forty.

Member Fred Chin has known Gary for 10 years and loved his heart of gold and passion for Porsches. Fred shares his memories of Gary. "I remember chasing him around the course in his then black 997 GT3, my skills insufficient to negotiate a clean pass around him. Also I remember our discussions in the paddock where he relished how much he enjoyed driving. It was at that time I knew Gary was truly one of a kind."

"His enjoyment of driving and the ability to share those moments over cocktails will be my eternal memory of him and his love of Porsche. Gary, you will be in my fondest memories whenever I step into my Porsche. I hope to be driving with as much enjoyment, zest and enthusiasm as you showed me and as I complete each lap of life."
