Facility Development Update

Track Expansion Project and SM Estates News

05 mapThe Northern Track Expansion Project, located on the newly acquired 230-acre parcel of the 553.27 acres of property north of the existing facility is officially under way. Immediate plans include a 3.2-mile track extension, a new paddock area, new entrances, an interior road connecting the new property with the original facility, and a kart track. Installation of protective fencing to prevent the desert tortoise from entering the area has just been finalized. Russ Meads, Director of the Spring Mountain Development team, reports that scraping of the road course, followed by grading, will be taking place within the next few weeks, with construction continuing through the summer months. After the new track is built, the length of the longest configuration at Spring Mountain will be 9.13 miles.

06 driverFinal asphalt mix designs have been submitted for the surface of the new track and will undergo extreme testing over the next several weeks to determine densities, rutting, and compactions. Highly polymerized oils to withstand heat, yet maintain grip, will be used for the first time at Spring Mountain, adding to the rich history of the facility's extremely dense aggregates while embracing the latest engineering to provide the ultimate driving experience for our valued members.

Gridliance, an independent utility company with a mission to improve the reliability and resilience of the grid, has started construction on a much-needed substation expansion. Located on the southern-most portion of the newly acquired BLM land, the Gridliance substation will continue a great partnership to supply power to the facility.

John Morris and his wife, Katy are in the planning stages of building their next home at the track, and construction should begin very soon.
