Club Spring Mountain News - September 2012

It's a Whole New World at Club Spring Mountain

Are you ready for more adrenaline rush and excitement than ever at Club Spring Mountain? The official end of summer is coming up and the Fall Season at the Club is now in full swing. In July and August our most dedicated racers have continued their preparation for the first big race of the season on September 15-16, 2012. The starting grid will be packed with new and returning racers in the Bracket-style, Miata and Radical competitions, so ALL makes and models of cars can participate in the excitement. Contestants in the September race will find an entirely new look and feel to the track with our major track extension now in use.

We've been busy this summer making improvements to your overall experience at the Club, and the results have been rewarding. CEO John Morris had a chance to drive the newly-upgraded 4.0-mile course this week and reports, "It's a whole new world out there on the track. The driving experience with all the improvements is far beyond my wildest dreams, and I can't wait to see the looks on our members' faces after they try it out for the first time. If you can imagine a roller coaster ride with complete throttle control, you will find it in the new Spring Mountain road course."

Autumn is the perfect time to stay and play at Club Spring Mountain, with track weekends, races and fun events planned all season. And as always, the benefits of membership await your guests while you're playing on the track, including working out in the fitness center, the massage center, the pool and Jacuzzi, racquetball, or relaxing with members and friends in the luxurious lounge.

Refer to our Event Calendar to plan your track visits this season. Schedule your trip to Club Spring Mountain today with our easy online RSVP form. Simply click on the date you would like to visit and you'll find the RSVP form for that time.

Major Changes Completed at the Facility

This summer has been busy with huge developments completed at our world-class facility for motorsports enthusiasts. Last month we added 127,000 square feet and 2040 tons of asphalt, resulting in a 3/4 mile track extension! Not only did we add new track, we also made changes to certain sections to improve safety for our drivers. At Ego Check we added over 400 feet of 12' wide paving, created more width to the long straight behind the Clubhouse, and Kenny's Corner was revamped with more paving and new curbing. In these areas, 12 additional feet of paving created a nearly 50' wide road course which means safer and faster racing. Many of the existing curbs were improved and we added new curbs for running the course in a counter-clockwise rotation. Also, we added a 4/10-mile extension off turn 4 with a series of fast, challenging turns, including an 8 degree banked turn with a roller-coaster feel.

EIGHT new variations to Spring Mountain's lineup of configurations were created with this track addition, including 4.1, 3.9, 3.6, 2.7, 2.2, 2.3, 2.0 and 1.8-mile options, two of which are reverse course configurations. The aerial photo gives you an idea of the changes, but you've got to drive it to truly experience the excitement! The new track is composed of state-of-the-art asphalt material which makes it possible to drive on within a few days after the job is complete.

In addition to the new track extension, beginning this fall we will be offering gourmet meals prepared in our own Clubhouse kitchen. Construction is nearly complete on a full commercial kitchen in the Clubhouse, adjacent to the bar. Effective October 1 we will offer meal service for breakfast, lunch and dinner on member weekends with a gourmet menu changing per season developed by our own Executive Chef, Susan DeLisle. In addition to full-service dining for our own members, the food and beverage staff will be providing healthy and delicious lunches for the Ron Fellows Performance Driving Schools, and offering select cuisine for Corporate and Track events held at the facility. Plans also include adding more seating inside the Clubhouse dining room to accommodate the new meal service.

Our New Director of Food & Beverage - Susan DeLisle

We are pleased to welcome Susan De.Lisle as the new Director of Food & Beverage at Club Spring Mountain. Susan comes to us with excellent credentials, most recently as Executive Chef at Mountain Falls Grill Room, where she created the menus and was in charge of restaurant and catering operations. Susan received a degree in Culinary Arts at the Culinary Institute of America in New York and has valuable experience in all facets of the restaurant industry at high-end eateries in New York City. We know you will be thrilled with Susan's Club menu ideas, with favorites such as gourmet specialty salads, sandwich options (including a 'make your own sandwich' alternative), grilled burgers, hot dogs or sausages, pasta, chicken, fish and prime rib as an example of some of the selections. Is your mouth watering yet? We will also continue our beverage service from the bar. Having our own kitchen at the Club gives us many more options with added choices and convenience for our members.

East vs. West Radical Contest at Monticello

On August 24-26, 2012 we gathered with our new sister Club, Monticello Motor Club, for a race competition weekend in the beautiful Catskill mountains of Monticello, New York. The race was a culmination of a summer of Radical driving experiences at Monticello and the members from both coasts enjoyed some fun, camaraderie and healthy competition in the "East vs. West" race, along with an enjoyable weekend with friends old and new. Congratulations to all the members who finished on the podium. View all the photos from the weekend's festivities.

This summer we introduced the Radical dealership to fellow motorsports enthusiasts in New York, and relocated our Radical fleet, mechanics and driving professionals to the east coast for a summer of Radical courses at the world-class Motor Club. The Radical program has been a huge success with sold-out driving schools and new Radicals running on the Monticello Road Course. Also, more members have joined Club Spring Mountain and Monticello after experiencing the advantages of a dual membership. If you are interested in joining Monticello Motor Club, you can take advantage of a dual-membership option to join as a Silver or Gold Member at 50% off the current initiation fees. Club Spring Mountain members with a residence (primary or secondary) within a 200- mile radius of Monticello Motor Club are not eligible for this offer. Club Spring Mountain members can join Monticello Motor Club as a Corporate member at the normal rate and their annual dues for 2012 and 2013 will be waived (reflects a savings of $15,000 per year.)

Monticello Motor Club's road course was built to test a professional racecar driver, but designed to be safe for the first-time track enthusiast. Set on 175 wooded acres of undulating terrain, the course incorporates grand corners reminiscent of great European tracks; over 1.5 miles of straights, 450 feet of thrilling elevation changes; and a total of 22 turns including hairpins, increasing, and decreasing radius.

The Next Club Race Weekend - September 15-16, 2012

Don't Miss our September Race Event....Miata, Radical and Bracket Races!

We are expecting the biggest turnout ever for the first Club Race competition weekend of the Fall season, to be held September 15-16, 2012. The word is out about our newly-updated track and members can't wait to be a part of the new driving experience at the Club. Don't miss your chance to see friends you've missed over the summer. Radical, Miata or Sports Car fans, enjoy the camaraderie and participate in all the excitement of this race weekend. To give you the opportunity to practice on the new configurations before the race, the full track will be in use on Thursday and Friday for the members. We are expecting a large field of Radicals and Miatas at the race, with drivers competing for points and trophies at the end of the year. Now is your chance to add more points to your cumulative totals so you can take home the year-end trophies!

Sabrina reports that we will have another eventful weekend, with great food (check out the race weekend menu!) wonderful camaraderie and DJ Rob Petaros (his day job is working as a Radical Supervisor) will be spinning tunes for us in the Clubhouse on Saturday night, September 15. A complimentary continental breakfast will be served in the Clubhouse each day, and the price for lunches is $15.00 per person with pre-registration or $25.00 at the event, and dinner is $35.00 per person with pre-registration or $45.00 at the event, not including alcoholic beverages at the bar.

Drivers, on Saturday you will be running the longest, fastest track ever offered at Spring Mountain - our new 4-mile configuration. Get ready to set some new record lap times on this over 4-mile road course. The new track features high speed S's with a drop into the new section (don't worry we've given you a reference) with new wide and smooth curbs, more asphalt and a 8-degree banked corner before coming back up to 5B. Ego check and other corners are wider with better curbs and a higher degree of grip. The straight has been widened at the race start and 4-cars wide is possible around ego check. (Doug, don't do it!!!) Kenny's corner has more asphalt and newly widened curbs...that's just the start of 4 miles of your new and improved track experience.

On Sunday racers will discover a new meaning in the term 'the fastest track in the West.' Experience long straights and hard banked corners on the 3.75-mile road course. This is a wider, faster track with yet another new straight. Hold onto your hats at the widened entrance of a fast straight to ego check. You'll find out just how much downforce you have at high speeds as you decide to lift or brake.

For a complete schedule of activities, rules and associated costs, view the Saturday and Sunday race weekend schedules.

For more information or to sign up for the event, please contact Sabrina Fares.
