Facility Development Update

Track Expansion Project and SM Estates News

05 springmountain trackThe Northern Track Expansion Project, located on a 230-acre parcel of property north of the facility, made significant progress during the summer. Plans include a 3.24-mile track extension, a new paddock area, new entrances, an interior road connecting the new property with the original facility, and a kart track. The track is currently being graded with rough grading expected to be completed next week, followed by fine grading. Paving is scheduled for October 11. The Development agreement was approved for the entire property, and renderings of the new buildings will be available soon. After the new track is built, the length of the longest configuration at Spring Mountain will be 9.13 miles.

06 race lineupThe original design for our new track was developed by Simon Payne, who offers an abundance of motorsports experience, design expertise and attention to detail. We are proud to announce that joining the team is world-class race track designer and safety coordinator Martyn Thake, who has analyzed the layout of our new course to seek certification for FIA Level 3 status. Martyn’s company, Motorsports Consulting Services, has 30 years of experience designing and certifying racetracks for Indy Car and IMSA/ALMS. They have lent their expertise to more than 100 different race venues and events. With Motorsports Consulting Services and AMS Asphalt Material Services on our team, we are working with some of the finest consultants in the racing business.

Spring Mountain Estates, our luxury residential development at the facility with 80 home and mixed-use lots, continues to evolve with more members planning and building their own homes at the track. John and Katy Morris are currently building their next home with construction in the framing stages In addition, Club members Benn and Marly Godenzi recently acquired 20 parcels in the Estates for developing trackside homes in the near future. Russ Meads also reports 3 new construction starts this month and 2 more homes to begin this season.

Paving Solutions Briefing

Partnership with Leading Track Asphalt Firm Announced

07 pavingDespite our best efforts, our initial repaving project on the north/south track during the COVID-19 shut down did not go as planned. The course was milled and resurfaced a second time, but structural issues caused the asphalt to blemish at some of the corners. We attempted patching the corners to eliminate lifting, which caused grip issues and frustration for everyone, including our valued members. We understand the impact this has had on your driving experiences, and apologize for any inconvenience.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel…Bryan Wulfenstein, of Wulfenstein Construction08 construction, and Russ Meads, of Double M Construction, have made diligent efforts to correct this issue; not only for the north/south course, but to ensure the new track addition is perfect from the start. Our partner in this endeavor is AMS-Asphalt Material Services, with a strong pedigree of successful track installations in both oval and road course applications, from Talladega and Daytona to Watkins Glen, Lime Rock, Road Atlanta and VIR.

The base layer of asphalt for the new track will begin October 11 and then the crew will shift their focus to the north/south course the week of October 18-22. A specific blend recommended by AMS will be milled and resurfaced, and representatives of the firm will be on site with their lab to monitor/test all aspects of the production for quality control.

After the north/south course is finished, the 3.24-mile track expansion project will be completed. We have every confidence in the success of our paving endeavors as we partner with the best consultants in the racing industry. Thank you for your continued support.

Meet Samantha Harris

Our New Club Coordinator is at your Service

09 samanthaWe are pleased to welcome Samantha Harris as our new Club Coordinator. Samantha will be assisting Elizabeth in all details of Club events so she can focus more on new membership and special events for members.

Samantha started with Spring Mountain in 2014 at our 10-year anniversary party, where she signed in guests for the event. Climbing the ladder quickly, Sam first helped operate the tunnel for Track Events on the weekends. In 2015 she was offered a part-time job in the Welcome Center, where she worked until she was hired as Marketing Coordinator in 2017. Two years later, Samantha began working in Corporate Events until she made the transition over to Club Spring Mountain with Elizabeth.

10 samantha hikesSamantha enjoys the family-like atmosphere at the Club, saying, “Before I worked in the Club, I worked primarily with the Performance Driving School side of Spring Mountain. The students are here for a few days and they leave. It’s been a nice change of pace to get to know and build relationships with the members. Now I am seeing Spring Mountain through different lenses.”

Samantha lived in Las Vegas until she was 12 and her family moved to Pahrump. She graduated from UNLV in 2016 with a BSBA in Marketing. Her older brother also lives in Pahrump with his family, and her mom and step-dad live in Massachusetts. Sam has a two-year-old German Shepard, Lola, who was adopted from the local pound about a year ago.

Samantha loves to hike, having conquered numerous trails in Mt Charleston, Death Valley and Red Rock. She recently purchased a home in Pahrump and enjoys teaching herself home improvement projects such as painting, rewiring a new chandelier for her dining room and removing cabinets in her kitchen. She remarks, “It is amazing how many things you can learn just from watching a YouTube video.”

Samantha has hiked to the peak of Mt. Charleston twice, which is not an easy task. “The hike is roughly 10 miles to the top and then 10 miles down, which is not just physically challenging, but mentally as well. Which, as we all know, is similar to the process of expanding our track. It is an indescribable feeling standing on the top of the Peak and I know this will be a momentous moment for everyone at Spring Mountain once the new track (Charleston Peak) is completed. So, I am secretly hoping that this is the name chosen.”
