Facility Development Update

Continued Progress on Development Projects

04 towerProgress continues with development plans and changes to the skyline at the facility. A 4-story control tower with a designated section for race spotters soaring 55 feet above the track will provide perfect visibility of the entire Charleston Peak race circuit. Construction will begin soon on this much-anticipated project. The tower consists of a lower lounge area on the first floor, with the second and third floors designated for track viewing and the fourth floor utilized for race control. (Click to enlarge the drawing.)

Our state-of-the-art Race America Electronic flagging system is in the process of being installed under the supervision of Zach Dowdell, Director of Special Projects. Currently, all of the light stations are working and they will be will be up and running for our February race weekend.

05 videoTo boost perimeter security, with recommendations from members Patrick Smith, Victor Di Cosola and his BaseCamp video team, Spring Mountain purchased a state-of-the-art commercial drone. The drone will not only increase safety around our 933-acre facility, it will give our security team the ability to monitor distant areas quickly and efficiently without leaving their primary post for extended periods of time. The Mavic 3 Enterprise 3T with night and thermal vision will spot unwanted movement in the dark. Check out this video from Victor’s TNVC to see the drone in action.

06 racingPlans are underway for the Lake Spring Mountain area to undergo a major redevelopment with 36 RV spaces, a large, resort-style pool, and an expansion of the existing Aquatic center. Grading for this project will begin in February with a completion date for the RV spaces of May 2023. The Pool and Aquatic Center are expected to be completed this summer.

07 radicalOur 30-acre go-kart track is making progress, as we expect a final tortoise permit soon. Tortoise fencing will begin after the permit is granted, and we will wait for the tortoise hibernation period to end in March before proceeding with the construction of the kart track. Final designs and layout are underway, and we expect grading and paving to be completed this summer, with the operation of the 1-mile kart track anticipated for the Fall of 2023.

Other projects at the facility continue their momentum, with all flood prevention work completed with new drainage ditches capable of handling a 1000-year event. The two 5,000-square-foot storage buildings will be completed soon, along with the surrounding paving.
