Happy New Year 2023!

Gearing up for an Unforgettable Year Ahead

01 2023Warmest wishes for a spectacular New Year to our members and friends at Club Spring Mountain. We look back fondly on the past year and ahead to 2023 with anticipation and excitement. This year and always, our objective is to continue to provide the finest motor resort facility with top amenities and service for our valued members. 2022 was a momentous year, with significant developments and new partnerships formed to make your Club experience memorable and FUN.

02 new-membersElizabeth McGee, Membership Director, reports the addition of 17 new Charter members and 1 Corporate Member to the Club in 2022. We are looking forward to seeing all of our members, old and new, on the track! Remember, if you refer a new member to us at Club Spring Mountain, you will receive a credit for half your current annual dues for each person you recommend who joins the Club. We love seeing you and your friends enjoying all the benefits of being a Club member.

03 craneTraditionally in January we look back on the previous year to remember events, accomplishments, and milestones. The highlights of 2022 are listed below.

Last February, construction on our premier 3.23-mile road course, Charleston Peak, was completed, including striping and curb painting. Our colossal 480,000 square foot paddock, nearly double the size of any other previous paddock areas, was also paved, rendering the Northern Track Expansion project officially ready for use.

04 lineupAt March's Club Race Weekend, members drove on the Charleston Peak course for the first time to rave reviews. A temporary building was also constructed adjacent to the new track.

In May, the Spring Mountain Highway Billboard screen, along with the security screen, was replaced to provide the latest high-resolution images that can be viewed by audiences even in direct sunlight. The water at Lake Spring Mountain was completely emptied, and the entire lake area is now in the redesign stage. Future plans include a resort-style pool, casitas, and renovation of the Aquatic center.

05 sc-raceIn June, access to the Charleston Peak road course became easier with the paving of Wheeler Pass Road, providing entry to Charleston peak directly from Highway 160.

On July 31, a 1000-year flash flood dumped 5.11 inches of rainfall in a one-square-mile area in 49 minutes, sending 76 billion gallons of water rushing through portions of Spring Mountain Estates and along the east side of the property. Severe damage was sustained to parts of the track and to several homes within the Estates. Spring Mountain’s staff and the Double M Construction team worked swiftly to clean up the area and to ensure our track, buildings, and homes were restored. Protection measures accomplished included the installation of a 4' deep and 10' wide storm drainage ditch, capable of handling another 1000-year event.

06 radicalsIn September, multiple construction projects commenced, including (1) the first garage building at Charleston Peak, featuring a 14-foot high deck with a 50-spectator capacity for viewing the new circuit; (2) a 40x60 tent for members and classes, with air-conditioning and ventilation; (3) a new utility and restroom building; (4) the West Track Classroom remodel; and (5) two 5,000-square-foot garage storage buildings, located behind the Corvette building.

07 race08 world-finalsThe inaugural Desert Invitational at Spring Mountain was held from September 29-October 1. A semi-annual event between Spring Mountain and Apex Motor Club, for members only, the objective was to build camaraderie and create fun for the members of both clubs with the opportunity to drive on different tracks. The next event will be held at Apex March 23–25, and Elizabeth will have the information out to you soon. In the meantime, feel free to contact her with your level of interest.

The inaugural Radical World Finals were held November 9-13, on the Charleston Peak circuit. Radical owners and racers from around the world gathered at Spring Mountain to celebrate 25 years of success.

We are sincerely thankful for your support and belief in our vision for the Club. Wishing you and your family good health, good fortune, and happiness in the new year. We’ll see you at the track!

Facility Development Update

A Preview of Development Projects for 2023

09 tower-graphicWe embark on a new year with some exciting development projects and big changes to the skyline at the facility. A 4-story control tower with a designated section for race spotters soaring 55 feet above the track will provide perfect visibility of the entire Charleston Peak race circuit. Construction will begin during the first part of February and is expected to be complete in April. The tower consists of a lower lounge area on the first floor, with the second and third floors designated for track viewing and the fourth floor utilized for race control. (Click to enlarge the drawing.) The eagerly anticipated Race America timing system has been delivered and will be installed over the next two months.

10 podiumPlans are underway for the Lake Spring Mountain area to undergo a major redevelopment with 36 RV spaces, a large, resort-style pool, and an expansion of the existing Aquatic center. Grading for this project will begin in February with a completion date for the RV spaces of April 2023. The Pool and Aquatic Center are anticipated to be completed this summer.

Our 30-acre go-kart track is making progress, as we expect a final tortoise permit by the end of January. Tortoise fencing will begin after the permit is granted, and we will wait for the tortoise hibernation period to end in March before proceeding with the construction of the kart track. Final designs and layout are underway, and we expect grading and paving to be completed this summer, with the operation of the 1-mile kart track anticipated for the Fall of 2023.

Other projects at the facility continue their momentum, with all flood prevention work completed with new drainage ditches capable of handling a 1000-year event. The two 5,000-square-foot storage buildings will be completed this month, along with the surrounding paving.
